Helical Gears For Electric Vehicles

Helical gears belong to cylindrical gears. Their tooth surfaces are helical curved surfaces, machined with tooth traces inclined at a certain angle to the gear axis. When the gear rotates, contact starts from one end of the tooth and gradually expands to form linear contact. Unlike spur gears, the entire length of a helical gear tooth never engages fully at the same time.

Helical gears feature excellent load capacity and much smoother meshing. Their transmission runs more stably, which reduces impact loads, noise and vibration. This results in smoother transmission and superior load-bearing capacity, making helical gears widely used in electric vehicle gearboxes. The helical gears for electric vehicles are made of 8620H steel, which deliver great core toughness and outstanding surface wear resistance. After carburizing and quenching, their tooth surface hardness reaches 55–62 HRC. They can withstand the instantaneous peak torque output by electric motors, resisting tooth breakage and pitting during acceleration and hill climbing. They fully satisfy the core requirements of electric vehicle transmissions and serves as a mature matching component for new energy reducers.
