Spiral Bevel Gear is a type of bevel gear with curved teeth, oblique teeth to provide gradual engagement and larger contact surface at a given time than an equivalent straight bevel gear. Lapping is a process that uses a specially shaped grinding wheel (similar to a fine abrasive wheel) to perform precise, paired, and intermeshing grinding of the gear pair (large and small gears) after heat treatment (quenching). This process does not create new tooth profiles, but rather corrects and optimizes the minute tooth profile distortions (such as twisting, warping, and dimensional changes) caused by heat treatment with extremely high precision and consistency, and significantly reduces surface roughness, the bevel gears under lapping process calls lapped spiral bevel gears.
