Traction Systems (Locomotives & Multiple Units)
Traction systems are responsible for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive the wheels. In modern locomotives and multiple units, this often involves electric traction motors. These systems require speed reduction and torque multiplication to move the heavy train from a standstill and maintain efficient cruising speeds.


Turnout & Switch Operation (Point Machines)
Point machines (also known as switch machines or switch motors) are the mechanisms that physically move the railway rails to guide a train from one track to another at a junction. The gear system inside translates the high-speed, low-torque rotation of an electric motor into the low-speed, high-torque movement needed to throw the switch.

Pantograph Operation (Current Collection)
A pantograph is a diamond-shaped or single-arm frame on the roof of an electric locomotive used to contact overhead power lines to collect current. The raising of the pantograph is usually controlled by air pressure (pneumatic system) or springs, while some modern systems use electric actuators for precise control.
