Miter Gear is a special type of bevel gear, specifically referring to a paired gear set consisting of two gears of identical size. It transmits power at a 1:1 speed ratio between intersecting shafts (typically at 90 degrees).
Its key feature is that it changes only the direction of power transmission without altering the speed, as the gears are identical in both size and speed ratio. It can be understood as a “right-angle direction changer.”
Miter gears are primarily used to change the direction of the rotational axis, with a fixed transmission ratio of 1:1. The axis intersection angle is most commonly 90 degrees, though it can also be designed for other intersecting angles. Importantly, miter gears must be used in pairs of two identical gears.
