What’s the difference between ground spiral bevel gear and lapped spiral bevel gear?

Grinding spiral bevel gears usually undergo a precision grinding process after heat treatment and reaches a better accuracy (AGMA Q12-14, DIN6-5), superior surface finish, and consistent interchangeability. Ground gears are fully interchangeable, run quieter, handle higher speeds and loads, and last longer, but cost significantly more. Lapped spiral bevel gears usually goes through a lapping process after heat treatment and reaches a accuracy of DIN8 or AGMA Q9-10. It is a low-pressure abrasive process that improves surface finish and contact pattern but does not correct heat treatment distortion or tooth spacing errors. Due to relatively lower cost, it’s more suitable for medium speed/load application in agricultural machinery and standard reducers.
