- Complex cutter head adjustment: The cutter head diameter, number of blades, and tip radius all require precise calculation and adjustment.
- Difficult contact pattern control: The contact pattern of zero degree bevel gears is very sensitive to changes in mounting distance, requiring repeated adjustments during machining and assembly.
- Heat treatment distortion: Due to the complex tooth geometry, distortion after carburizing and quenching is difficult to predict and control, often requiring grinding stock to be left and corrected during the grinding process.
- Strict pairing requirements: Each pair of gears must undergo lapping to achieve the ideal contact state and cannot be interchanged arbitrarily.
