How do you make sure the gears are good quality?

That is a great question, and it is something we think about every single day. We do not just make gears and hope they are right. We have a whole system in place to check our work at every step. Let me explain how it works.

First, we are certified under ISO 9001:2015. That is an international quality management standard. What does that mean in plain language? It means we have written procedures for everything we do – from the moment we get your order to the moment we ship your gears. We follow those procedures every time. And we get audited by outside inspectors regularly to make sure we are actually doing what we say we do. So the ISO certification is not just a piece of paper on the wall. It is proof that we take quality seriously.

But let me tell you about the actual steps we take to make sure your gears are right.

  • It starts with the raw material. When we receive steel from our supplier, we do not just assume it is good. We check the material certification that comes with it – that is the mill test report I mentioned in another FAQ. We also do our own checks, like hardness testing and sometimes even chemical analysis, to make sure the steel matches what we ordered. If the material is wrong, nothing else matters. So we catch problems early.
  • Next comes the machining. This is where we cut the gear teeth. Our machines are CNC controlled, which means they follow a program very precisely. But we do not just set them up and walk away. Our operators check the first piece that comes off the machine – we call it a first article inspection. They measure the critical dimensions to make sure everything is on target. If something is off, they adjust the machine before running the rest of your order.
  • During production, we do in-process checks. That means we pull gears off the line at regular intervals and measure them. This helps us catch any drift in the machine before it becomes a big problem. If we see a dimension starting to move, we stop and fix it.
  • After the gears are machined, they go to heat treatment. This is a critical step. We track the temperature and time carefully, and we record everything in a heat treatment report. After heat treatment, we test the hardness of every batch. We use a hardness tester that pushes a small indent into the metal and measures how hard it is. If the hardness is not within the range we specified, the batch gets rejected.
  • Then comes grinding, if your gears need it. Grinding is a very precise process, and we check dimensions again after grinding. We use electronic gauges and measuring tools that are calibrated regularly. If a tool is out of calibration, we do not use it until it is fixed.
  • Finally, we do a final inspection before the gears are packaged. This is where we check everything against your drawing. We measure the dimensions, we check the gear teeth accuracy, and we sometimes do a meshing test with a master gear. Only when everything passes do we clean the gears, package them, and get them ready to ship.

We also keep records. Every inspection result gets written down. If you ever ask for reports, we can pull them from our files. And if something goes wrong down the road, we can go back and see what we measured on that batch.

So the short answer is – we use our ISO 9001 system, we check material before we start, we inspect during production, we test after heat treatment, we do a final inspection before shipping, and we keep records of everything. That is how we make sure your gears are good quality.
