Module Miter Gear
A miter gear is a bevel gear where the two mating gears have the same number of teeth and are of equal size, resulting in a 1:1 gear ratio and a 90° shaft angle (in the most common configuration). The term “miter” refers to the relationship and purpose (equal-size pairing for 90° power transfer), not the tooth geometry itself. Miter gears can be made with different tooth types. The miter gear can be divided into straight miter gears, spiral miter gears, zero miter gears.
Features:
(1)Pitch Cone Angle: For the standard 90° configuration, both gears have a pitch cone angle of 45°. This is what makes them identical.
(2)Hand of Spiral (For Spiral Types): In a spiral miter gear pair, one gear must have a left-hand spiral and the other a right-hand spiral. They are a matched, mirrored set. The hand determines the direction of axial thrust.
(3)Mounting & Backlash: Precise mounting distance is critical to ensure the pitch cones apexes intersect at the same point. Proper backlash must be set during assembly.
(4)Efficiency: High (typically 95-99% per pair), with losses primarily due to sliding friction
