Yes, absolutely. This is actually one of the most common reasons why customers come to us. You have an old machine – maybe a piece of farm equipment from the 1980s, or an industrial press from the 1990s. It still runs fine except one gear is worn out. You call the original manufacturer, and they tell you they stopped making that part years ago. So what do you do? You call us.
We specialize in making parts for old machines. We do not care if the machine is 10 years old or 50 years old. If you have the old gear – even if it is worn down or broken – we can make a new one. Here is how it works.
You send us the old gear. If it is broken into pieces, send us everything you have. If it is just worn out – teeth are thin, splines are loose – that is fine too. We will measure the gear carefully. We look at the outside diameter, the inside diameter, the length, the number of teeth, the tooth size, and the shape of the teeth. We also check for things like keyways, splines, or special features.
Sometimes the old gear has worn down so much that we cannot just copy it exactly. A worn tooth is smaller than it used to be. If we copy a worn tooth, your new gear will be too small and will not fit right. So we need to figure out what the original size was before it wore down. We do this by looking at unworn areas of the gear – maybe the root of the tooth is still original, or the outer edge never touched anything. We also look at the mating part if you have it. That tells us how the gear is supposed to fit.
If we are not sure, we will make a drawing of what we think the original gear looked like and send it to you for approval. You can show it to someone who knows the machine, or compare it to other parts you have. Once you say yes, we make the gear.
We also keep records. If you need the same gear again five years from now, we still have the drawing. You do not have to send us the old gear again. Just call us and say “I need that gear you made for my old baler” and we will find your file.
So if you have an old machine that you want to keep running, do not scrap it just because you cannot find a part. Send us the old gear. We will make you a new one. It is that simple.
