Producing no axial thrust, spur gears are more efficient in transmitting power. In respect of noise, helical gears’ angled teeth interact with rotational axes in a more gradual way, lowering vibration and noise generation. Also characterized by simple structure, spur gears are more economical to produce and they also generate less wear, reducing the frequency of replacement. For load bearing, helical gears’ angled teeth create more surface area and contact between gears and drives, which typically supports higher load bearing. Therefore, spur gears are excellent for efficient transmission, cost-effective, and low-speed applications and helical gears are preferred in low noise and higher load bearing applications.
